Stranger Within is a video recorded interview where I ask three informants to take turns to look at my face, describe it verbally while I translate their descriptions into diagrammatic drawings. The video is projected on a piece of frosted tempered glass. Both sides of the projected glass are visible. The video on one side of the glass is a mirror image of the other side, matching the interview’s videography shot from two perspectives of the conversation.
Each drawing has two layers. The bottom page is a live transcription of what the informants were saying (as seen in the high-angle shot in the video), and the top semi-translucent page is a dynamic translation I made from listening to the audio a second time.
